Jay-Z Scores Tenth Number One Album

Jay-Z debuts at number one of the Billboard Top 200 chart with American Gangster; the album sold 425,000 copies in its first week. Jay-Z has now tied Elvis Presely in second place for the most number one albums on the chart; the only act to beat them is the Beatles (who have 19).
The Eagles’ Long Road Out of Eden slips one spot to number two, selling 359,000 copies (which is a 49% sales decrease). Garth Brooks debuts at number three with The Ultimate Hits, which sold 352,000 copies.
Chris Brown debuts at number four with Exclusive, which sold 294,000 copies. Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride falls two spots to number five, selling 121,000 copies (a 29% sales decrease).
Josh Groban’s Noel moves up two spots to number six, selling 116,000 copies (a 52% sales increase). Britney Spears’ Blackout falls five spots to number seven, selling 87,000 copies (a 70% sales decline).
The reissue of Taylor Swift’s self-titled album flies up eighteen spots to number eight, selling 68,000 copies (a 156% sales increase). Angels & Airwaves’ I-Empire debuts at number nine, selling 66,000 copies. And Cassidy’s B.A.R.S. The Barry Adrian Reese Story debuts at number ten, selling 63,000 copies.
Albums sales are up 7.5% from last weekat 9.95 million, but down 16.8% from the same week in 2006 (11.95 million).
