Ray Manzarek, a keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, passed away on May 20, 2013 after a battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74 years old at the time of his passing.
Manzarek met Jim Morrison at UCLA film school and then encountered each other in Venice shortly after graduation. Together, the two founded The Doors.
After the death of Morrison in 1971, Manzarek remained active in music. He tried to hold The Doors together by serving as the vocalist, but the band ended up falling apart. Manzarek played in other bands over the years, he produced other music acts, he became and author and he worked on films. In recent years, Manzarek had reunited with guitarist Robby Krieger to tour as The Doors.
Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Pablo, and three grandchildren.
