Nominations for the 2008 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. The nominees are: Afrika Bambaataa, Beastie Boys, Chic, Leonard Cohen, The Dave Clark Five, Madonna, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer and The Ventures.
To be eligible for a nomination, an artist or band must have released their first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination; to be eligible this year, an artist or band must have released their first single or album in 1982.
Of the nine nominees, five will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . The inductees will be announced in January, 2008, and the induction ceremony will take place on March 10, 2008.
Overall, I feel this is a good slate of nominees, and I’d be happy to see any of them inducted. But, as a fan of Depeche Mode and The Cure, I’m disappointed not to see either act on the list of nominees (since they are both eligible). Oh, well. Maybe next year…
