Sony BMG Music Entertainment is allowing its catalog to be sold through Amazon.com’s MP3 store. At this time, there is no exact date as to when Sony’s catalog will be available through Amazon’s MP3 store; the press release simply states that it will be “later this month.”
However, if that press release is accurate, then Sony’s catalog will be available for a big Pespi/Amazon download and other merchandise giveaway that will launch in early February. Rumors are circulating that Sony BMG will be one of the three major labels participating in that promotion.

Amazon.com launched their new digital music store, Amazon MP3 , today. The store currently has more than two million songs, all without copy-protection technology. Shoppers can download individual songs or entire albums using Amazon’s 1-Click button. Individual songs can cost .89-.99 cents each, while albums will retail for $5.99-$9.99. The tracks can be copied to multiple computers, burned onto CDs and played on most types of PCs and portable devices, including the iPod.
While this may be a paid service, I think that overall it’s a better deal than what you get for free from SpiralFrog.com. I believe that Amazon MP3 could have the potential become a serious contender for iTunes’ market share, and I haven’t truly been able to say that about other online music services on the internet.
