Rock and roll pioneer Bo Diddley has died at the age of 79. Diddley died at his home from heart failure on Monday, June 2, after months of ill health.

Diddley was an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 at the Grammys. Diddley’s major songs include “Bo Diddley,” “Say Man,” “You Can’t Judge a Book By its Cover,” “Shave and a Haircut,” “Uncle John,” “Who Do You Love?,” and “The Mule.”

Diddley was also one of the pioneers of the electric guitar, and added reverb and tremelo effects. His guitar playing has inspired many musicians over the years. In 1989, Bo Diddley also took part in Nike’s “Bo Knows” ad campaign, which featured Bo Jackson and Bo Diddley.
