Bruce Springsteen is upset with Ticketmaster, and says that he believes the company’s selling practices constitute a conflict of interest.

When tickets for Springsteen’s upcoming show at New Jersey’s Meadowlands went on sale on Ticketmaster’s website, some fans got an error message that shut them out. Then, the fans saw an ad for Ticketmaster subsidiary TicketsNow, offering tickets for hundreds of dollars more than face value. TicketsNow allows people who have tickets to exchange, trade or sell them at marked-up prices. Springsteen says he has received assurances from Ticketmaster that the company will stop redirecting Springsteen fans to TicketsNow.

This controversy has led U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell to call on the Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department to investigate possible conflicts of interest between Ticketmaster and TicketsNow. The New Jersey attorney general’s office is also investigating whether or not Ticketmaster has violated any consumer fraud or ticket resale laws.

A spokesman for Ticketmaster claimed that only a few fans reported problems. However, the New Jersey state attorney general’s office claims that have received more than 250 complaints.
