Fans of the Carpenters are trying to save the Los Angeles home that Richard and Karen Carpenter once lived and worked in, from demolition. The house was featured on the duo’s 1973 album, Now & Then. This is also the house that Karen Carpenter collapsed in her bedroom before dying of anorexia in 1983.
Richard Carpenter sold the house in 1997, and the new owners had tried to accomodate fans for years. The current owners have already torn down the annex that housed a recording studio, and have now submitted plans to replace the main house.
57-year-old Carpenters fan Jon Konjoyan is leading a campaign to save the main house from demolition, citing that the house is a Carpenters fan’s equivalent to Graceland.
