Seattle’s Crocodile Cafe has closed its doors due to financial difficulties. Owner Stephanie Dorgan left voice mail messages with club employees on Sunday afternoon, telling them they should no longer report for work.

The Crocodile Cafe played a vital part in Seattle’s club scene in the 1990s. A legendary show took place at the club on October 4, 1992: a double bill of Nirvana (billed as Pen Cap Chew) and Mudhoney. In 1996, a Cheap Trick gig at the club included a surprise appearance by Pearl Jam.

Other acts to perform at the club since it opened in 1991 include: Beck, The Ventures, Indigo Girls, Death Cab for Cutie, The Presidents of the United States of America, Beastie Boys, Dinosaur Junior, R.E.M., Ann Wilson, Yoko Ono, and Sleater-Kinney.
