Daughtry Debuts at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 July 22, 2009

Daughtry debuts at number one on the Billboard Top 200 album chart this week with their latest release, Leave This Town. The album sold 269,000 copies in its first week of release.

Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night falls one spot to numbe two, selling 103,000 copies (this is a 67% sales decline from last week). The Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack falls one spot to number three, selling 73,000 copies; this is a 47% decrease in sales.

The Now That’s What I Call Music Volume 31 compilation album falls one spot to number four, selling 69,000 (this is a 31% sales decrease from last week). The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. holds steady at number five, selling 54,000 copies; this is a 13% decrease in sales.

Dead Weather debuts at number six with Horehound, which sold 51,000 copies in its first week of release. Joe debuts at number seven with Signature, which sold 49,000 copies in its first week.

Twista debuts at number eight with Category F5, which sold 45,000 copies in its first week of release. Taylor Swift’s Fearless moves up one spot to number nine, selling 37,000 copies; this is an increase of 1% in sales from last week. Kings of Leon move up four spots to enter the top ten with Only By the Night, which sold 33,000 copies (this is a 9% increase in sales).

This week’s album sales (6.78 million units) is down 6.8% compared to last week, and down 9.3% compared to the same week last year.

Daughtry’s self-titled album was the top selling album of 2007, according to Billboard; the album sold 3.2 million copies. Akon’s Konvicted was #2, selling 2.7 million. This was followed by Fergie’s The Dutchess (2.4 million copies), the Hannah Montana soundtrack (2.5 million copies), and Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts (2.3 million copies).

Beyonce had the number one single of 2007 with “Irreplaceable,” followed by Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” The rest of the top five are Gwen Stefani’s “The Sweet Escape,” Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and T-Pain’s “Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin’).”
