Dee Dee Warwick, the younger sister of Dionne Warwick, died in New Jersey on October 18 at the age of 63. Warwick had been in failing health in recent months.

Warwick had several hits on the soul and R&B charts in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Some of her best-known songs are “Foolish Fool,” “She Didn’t Know (She Kept on Talking),” and “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me.” In addition to being a two-time Grammy Award nominee, she also sang backup for Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and others before her solo career. Warwick began singing as a teenager with her sister, Dionne, in the late 1950’s. The two performed together under the name of The Gospelaires. They also collaborated with the Drinkard Singers, a gospel group that also featured some of their aunts and uncles, and was managed by their mother.

Most recently, Warwick provided background vocals for Dionne’s one-woman show, My Music & Me, as well as for Dionne’s 2008 gospel album, Why We Sing.

Warwick was also the niece of gospel singer Cissy Houston, and a cousin of Whitney Houston.
