If, like me, you were watching cable television in the mid-to-late-1990’s, then you probably remember the VH1 series, Pop Up Video.  If you don’t, here’s what it was: it was a show broadcast by VH1 where videos were aired, and  throughout the clips, trivia facts would “pop up” on the screen (accompanied by a “popping bubble” sound effect).  Personally, I always found Pop Up Video to be rather annoying, especially the popping bubble sound effect.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that VH1 will be resurrecting Pop Up Video in a mobile-only format, starting on Monday, September 24.  This new version, Pop Up Video to Go, will be offered exclusively on VH1’s mobile network and will be updated weekly.  For the new version of the series, the trivia will appear in larger fonts and will be on the screen for a longer period of time.  The first two videos featured on Pop Up Video to Go are Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” and Fall Out Boy’s “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs.”

Larger font and trivia staying on the screen for a longer period of time?  That sounds like it could be a big mistake… how much of the video are you actually going to be able to see?  This could end up being worse than the original Pop Up Video.  Well, at least it’s a mobile-only program, so I won’t accidentally stumble upon it channel surfing…
