R&B singer Ginuwine claims he was duped into signing a contract with a non-existent record company. In a lawsuit filed in Manhattan, the singer claims that back in May he was persuaded to sign a contract with King Music Group Inc., a company that a personal acquaintance claimed he owned. The contract gave Ginuwine $1.75 million to record his first album for the label, including a $500,000 advance. Ginuwine claims that over the past five months, he hasn’t made any records, nor has he been paid any money. The suit also claims there is no corporate record for King Music Group Inc. anywhere in New York, California, Florida, or Tennessee.

The suit accuses both the company and its owner of breach of contract, fraud and negligent misrepresentation. Ginuwine is asking for a total of $4 million in damages. Ginwuine’s lawyer says that the singer is unable to record anywhere else, because he could be sued if he made records for another company while under contract with King.

Hopefully, Ginuwine has learned a valuable lesson from this: be sure to do your research before signing any contracts.
