2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The inductees for the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. The inductees are Neil Diamond, the Alice Cooper Band, Dr. John, Darlene Love, and Tom Waits. Leon Russell has been honored with a musical excellence award. Executives Jac Holzman and Art Rupe were given the Ahmet Ertegun Awards.

The induction ceremony will take place in New York City on March 14, 2011.

Taylor Swift Spends Second Week at #1 on the Billboard 200

Taylor Swift’s Speak Now remains on top of the Billboard 200 album chart. The album sold 320,000 copies, which is a 69% sales decline from last week.

Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party debuts at number two, selling 193,000 copies in its first week of release. Sugarland’s The Incredible Machine falls one spot to number three, selling 60,000 copies (which is a 32% decrease in sales).

Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas II You debuts at number four, selling 55,000 copies in its first week of release. Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being falls one spot to number five, selling 49,000 copies; however, this is a 5% increase in sales from last week.

Kings of Leon’s Come Around Sundown falls three spots to number six, selling 40,000 copies (which is a 40% decrease in sales). Eminem’s Recovery falls to spots to number seven, selling 38,000 copies; however, this represents a 1% increase in sales.

Neil Diamond’s Dreams debuts at number eight, selling 35,000 copies in its first week of release. Brad Paisley’s Hits Alive debuts at number nine, selling 31,000 copies in its first week of release. Elton John and Leon Russell’s The Union falls four spots to number ten, selling 27,000 copies (which is a 27% decrease in sales from last week).

This week’s album sales (5.43 million units) is down 6% compared to last week, and down 21% compared to the same week last year.

2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

The nominees for the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. Nominated for possible induction are: Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Donovan, Tom Waits, LL Cool J, Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, and Chuck Willis.

The final list of the 2011 inductees will be announced in December 2010. The induction ceremony will be held on March 14, 2011 at Manhattan’s Waldorf Astoria.

Reba McEntire debuts at number one on the Billboard Top 200 album chart with her latest release, Keep on Loving You. The album sold 96,000 copies in its first week of release.

George Strait’s Twang falls one spot to number two, selling 61,000 copies; this is a 61% decline in sales from last week. Third Eye Blind’s Ursa Major debuts at number three.

Kings of Leon’s Only by the Night moves up one spot to number four, selling 45,000 copies (this is an 8% increase in sales). The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. fall two spots to number five, selling 41,000 copies (which is a 10% decrease in sales from last week).

3 Doors Down‘s self-titled album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, selling 154,000 copies. Bun B’s II Trill debuts at number two, selling 98,000 copies.

Julianne Hough‘s self-titled album debuts at number three, selling 67,000 copies. Nothing But The Best, Reprise’s Frank Sinatra retrospective collection, falls two spots to number four, selling 54,000 copies (this is a 45% decline in sales from last week).

Death Cab for Cutie’s Narrow Stairs falls four spots to number five, selling 53,000 copies (this is a 63% sales decline). Leona Lewis’ Spirit falls one spot to number six, selling 50,000 copies (this is a 20% sales decrease).

Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 falls one spot to number seven, selling 45,000 copies (which is a 23% sales decrease from last week). Duffy’s Rockferry falls four spots to number eight, selling 44,000 copies (this is a 38% sales decrease).

Death Cab for Cutie claim their first number album with Narrow Stairs, which debuts at the top the chart. Narrow Stairs sold 144,000 copies.

The Frank Sinatra collection, Nothing But The Best, debuts at number two, selling 99,000 copies. Jason Mraz’s We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things debuts at number three, selling 73,000 copies.

Duffy debuts at number four with Rockferry, which sold 71,000 copies. Leona Lewis’ Spirit moves up one spot to number five, selling 62,000 copies (this is a 18% sales decrease from last week).

Toby Keith’s 35 Biggest Hits debuts at number two, selling 103,000 copies. Madonna’s Hard Candy falls two spots to number three, selling 94,000 copies (this is a 66% sales decline from last week).

Clay Aiken debuts at number four with On My Way Here, which also sold 94,000 copies. Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 falls three spots to number five, selling 87,000 copies (which is a 9% sales decrease).

Leona Lewis’ Spirit falls three spots to number six, selling 76,000 copies (a 10% sales decrease). Gavin DeGraw debuts at number seven with his self-titled album, which sold 66,000 copies.

Josh Groban’s Awake Live debuts at number eight, selling 58,000 copies. Dierks Bentley debuts at number nine with Greatest Hits: Every Mile a Memory, which sold 43,000 copies. Luis Miguel debuts at number ten with Complices, which sold 32,000 copies.

This week’s album sales (8.12 million units) is up 6.9% from last week. However, that total is down 4.6% from this same week last year.
